David Counsell has a his own way of doing things.  Some would call it extreme creativity, but to David, it's just good sense following his experience, ridiculous engineering chops (watch making) and hawk like ears.  I first learned of David through fellow music lover and audio guru, Gary Leeds.  "Fred, I really think you should hear these speakers."  Gary is not one to make such admonitions lightly.  Hear them I did.  I was duly impressed...really flattened.  I mean, they weren't supposed to work.  All of these drivers being vented together via one horn, after being bounced off of a rare tone wood.

Did I really appear this naive?  Well, I must have been, because his recipes worked like a charm.  Not only did they work and make a phenomenally musical sound, but they didn't suffer from the typical issues that arise in horn speakers.  You can listen to these works of art, nearfield, farfield, and you still get a very cohesive view onto the musical event.

From the Briton Line all the way up to the masterpiece Gottenburgs, (they use the largest full range driver made, a 31.5 inch Fostex into a massive brass horn) there is a commonality of correctness, and freedom from the constraints that many box speakers can't seem to avoid.  When Sasa Cokic, (of Trafomatic fame) and I were looking for a top horn to showcase his finest tube amplifiers, one stop in front of the DC-10 (now Viking)  room sealed the deal.  These were speakers that exuded the richness of music with tremendous tone and accuracy.  I think we were 10 second in before he said, "these are the ones."

So if you would like to revel in the greatness of horn speakers, horn speakers that will actually sound good in your home, without a studio being built to suit them, we can think of no other speaker we'd prefer.  Please take a look at a few more of his wonders down this very page.
